How Leo Scene works with documentary crews in the field

Leo Scene is run by Leo Dickinson Productions Limited, a documentary field production outfit built for shoots that happen far from a studio. You might be filming a contributor in a Highland bothy, chasing weather on a coastline, or running interviews in a borrowed community hall. We slot into that kind of day and keep the technical side moving, so your director and producer can concentrate on the story.

The work is practical. We handle camera support, sound, lighting and power for single-camera and multi-camera set-ups, and we carry the spares that actually matter when the nearest hire shop is a three-hour drive away. Kit lists, risk assessments and call sheets get sorted before the day, not in the van on the way there. If a location changes at short notice, which it often does, you will get a straight answer about what we can still cover.

Most of our bookings come from producers and production managers who need a known quantity. You tell us the dates, the locations and the shape of the shoot, and we tell you what crew and equipment it needs. Small factual pieces, long-form observational work and branded documentary are all familiar territory. We are equally happy joining a team for a single interview day or staying on for the full run of a series.

Leo Scene is a small operation by choice, which means one point of contact from the first email to the final wrap. You will not be passed between departments or brief a new face at the call time. Travel across the UK is routine, and we are used to working with fixers, translators and local crews when a shoot crosses borders. When the schedule gets tight, that continuity is worth having.

If you are at the planning stage and still weighing up options, get in touch anyway. A rough brief is enough of a start. We would rather talk through the shape of the shoot early than unpick a problem on the day.
